I read this article recently that questioned how far we should look back for inspiration. When our outfits are filled with nostalgic values on a memorable past, we are happy to watch Clueless and reblog images on Kate Moss from back in the day to give us something to look back on. That might be all well and good, but when are we gunna start producing our own content for our kids to be nostalgic over? When I quizzed Rowan on this topic last night, he said its because of Capitalism; it is easier and cheaper for industries to reproduce content that they already know people like than come up with new ideas. there is no need for market research when you know a two piece tartan is going to sell well due to its prior success.
And its not the fashion industry, hollywood enjoys remaking great films that were successful first time round, or just having sequels to films that people love and remember. When I was younger I used to work in a care home around every christmas, the old folks would sing songs they remember from their days, sweet romantic songs about their long lost loves. When we are in care homes, what are we going to be listening to, Calvin harris or Skillex? haha pick one!
Maybe I am wrong, maybe there is more to our generation than reblogging great mean girl quotes.
What do you guys think?
